Changes to Utility Billing and Participation in the Michigan Low-Income Energy Assistance Fund (LIEAF)
To strengthen statewide access to energy assistance and promote long-term energy self-sufficiency, the State of Michigan has updated the Michigan Low-Income Energy Assistance Fund (LIEAF). These changes, effective beginning with October 2025 utility bills, will impact all electric utility customers across the state, including those served by the City of Eaton Rapids.
As required by state law, all utilities must now participate in the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) or establish a comparable assistance program that meets state standards. The City of Eaton Rapids will participate directly in MEAP to ensure program compliance and support for eligible residents.
