Spring is almost here at Eaton Rapids! With that you will start seeing several projects happening within the City. Our Drinking Water project that we talked extensively about last year, has started so you will see a lot of activity with that project on-going throughout the year. We have some major street resurfacing projects as well as patching and repairs starting soon (weather permitting). Our DDA (Downtown Development Authority) is planning a Downtown Beautification sometime in late April and would love volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please contact me.
The City of Eaton Rapids will hold its’ annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 28th at 11am at Martin Hansen Amphitheater/Park. This is typically a well-attended event, and we invite kids of all ages to attend and get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny!
I want to apologize for incorrectly stating the name of the new Deli & Bakery in the last newsletter. Simply Stacy’s Bakery & Deli, located at 115 S. Main Street, officially opened on February 23rd and hope you all stop by and give them a try.
The annual State of the City address will be given at the March 9th City Council meeting, instead of in February. Residents are invited to attend in person or watch online. Beginning in March, the City of Eaton Rapids will start water main repair & replacement projects throughout the city. Residents may experience temporary road closures and traffic slowdowns. Please use caution when traveling in affected areas. Please see the list below for the scheduled work and view the map for specific areas affected. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the City of Eaton Rapids Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at the regular meeting scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Eaton Rapids City Hall, 200 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, MI.
1.) Said Public Hearing will be to consider amendment of a Zoning Ordinance to amend Section 1.40 to Article I, Appendix A, and to Amend Section 23.50 to Article XXIII, Appendix A Zoning Ordinance, of the codified ordinances of the City of Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, Michigan, to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the City of Eaton Rapids; and to rescind a Commercial Medical Marihuana Facilities overlay District.
Owners of property within 300 feet of the above-referenced parcels have been mailed a notice of this meeting. Interested parties will be given the opportunity to be heard at the public hearing.
2.) Said consideration will be for Conditional Use, Article V Low-Density Single-Family District (RD-1), Section 5.30 Conditional Use (G) Plant nurseries and greenhouses.

3.) Said Public Hearing will be to consider amendment of a Zoning Ordinance to amend Appendix A, Section 1.40 to Article I, Section 4.20 Traditional Residential to Article IV, Section 5.20 Low Density Single Family to Article V, Section 6.20 Single Family and Two Family, Article VI, Section 7.20 Multi Family Residential, to Article VII, and Section 9.20 Central Business District, Article IX, Zoning Ordinance, of the codified ordinances of the City of Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, Michigan, to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the City of Eaton Rapids; an amendment to allow Short term rentals (STR) as a principal permitted use in the above Zoning Districts.
